More Than a Hardware Store
Propane filling, screen repair, glass cutting, re-keying and Stihl service, handled by people who know the work.
Rowlett Hardware has been a family owned and operated hardware store in Johnson County, Texas since 2000. We stock more than 68,000 products across our four stores in Cleburne, Grandview, Rio Vista, and Godley, from loose nuts and bolts by the piece to plumbing, electrical, paint, tools, lawn and garden, fencing, and crossties. If we do not have it on the shelf, we will special order it for you. Ask a question and you will get an answer from someone who has done the job.
We also still do the hands-on work the big box stores gave up. Every location fills propane cylinders to the legal limit and takes in solar, fiberglass, and aluminum screens for repair. Our Cleburne store cuts glass to size and is an authorized Stihl dealer and Certified Service Repair Center, and both Cleburne and Grandview re-key door locks. Contractors and farmers can open a house account or keep a Texas agricultural exemption on file, so stop by your nearest store or give us a call and we will point you to the one that has what you need.
Nuts, bolts, screws and washers in grade 5, grade 8 and stainless, sold by the piece and not by the box. If you need one odd fastener for a kid's remote control car or a hundred for farm equipment, we have the size. We also stock cabinet and door hardware for refreshing a kitchen or a front entry, plus gun screws and chrome fasteners at the Cleburne store. It is the deepest fastener selection around, and someone will help you find the right one.
Hand and power tools for building, repairing and renovating, from the brands the trades actually trust. Drill bits and blades that hold an edge, Shop-Vac units for the cleanup nobody wants, saws, hammers, levels and layout tools. Stihl power equipment is sold and serviced at Cleburne by certified technicians. Ask the staff before you buy: most of them have done the job you are about to start and will tell you which tool is worth the money.
Everything from a thirty cent washer to a new water heater. We stock supply lines, fittings, valves, sump pumps, water filtration and repair parts for fixtures that stopped being made years ago. Kitchen and bath faucets, sinks and shower heads are on display so you can see them before you commit. Hydraulic hoses and fittings are made up while you wait at Grandview and Godley. Bring us the broken piece: matching it in hand beats guessing.
Circuit breakers, wire, boxes, fittings, adapters, switches and outlets for the jobs you take on yourself. Bulbs in LED, CFL, fluorescent and halogen, plus fixtures for indoors and out. Doorbells, flashlights and weatherproof fittings for everyday use. Seasonal comfort too: fans and air conditioners for August, propane, gas, electric and kerosene heaters for January, thermostats and weather stripping year round. Ask first, wire second.
Interior and exterior paint and stain, including Valspar, mixed to your color while you wait. Brushes, rollers, sprayers, tape, tarps, drop cloths and rags, plus the additives and primers that make a coat last. Extension and step ladders for the parts of the house you cannot reach. Come in with a photo, a chip or just an idea and the staff will talk you through prep, coverage and cleanup before you buy the wrong finish.
Seed, fertilizer, soil and seed potatoes in season, plus the hand tools, hoses and watering gear to keep it all alive through a Texas summer. Mowers, string trimmers, blades and small engine repair parts, with Stihl service at Cleburne. Fencing, crossties and posts for the acreage. Grills, smokers, Traeger pellets and fire pits for the evenings that make the work worthwhile. Tell us your yard and we will tell you what grows here.
The basics that keep you on the road: oil, filters, washer fluid, additives, fuses, bulbs, belts and wiper blades. Tire patching for everything from a lawn mower to a trailer. Towing accessories, hitches, balls, pins and wiring for hauling. We are not a full parts counter and we will say so if you need one, but for maintenance or the part that turns a two hour problem into a ten minute one, it is on the shelf.
Cleaning supplies and housewares that earn their shelf space. Brooms, mops, buckets, brushes and the cleaners that actually cut grease. Canning jars, lids and rings when the garden comes in. Storage bins, batteries, light bulbs, extension cords, pest control and the small things you only remember you need at seven on a Saturday morning. We open early for exactly that reason and you will be in and out in five minutes.
A gourmet kitchen shop in the front right corner of the Cleburne store. Bakeware, cast iron, Lodge skillets, small appliances, gadgets and utensils you will not find at a grocery store, plus gourmet coffee by the pound. Replacement rings and gaskets for pressure cookers, because a good cooker should outlive its seals. Bridal and wedding registries are kept here. If we do not stock it, we will special order it.
Fudge made in the store by one of our own, at the front counter in Cleburne. Over a hundred flavors rotate through the year and the favorites never leave: chocolate, chocolate pecan, rocky road, peanut butter, Butterfinger and butter pecan, plus sucrose free chocolate and chocolate pecan. Boxed for gifts, holidays or the drive home. Order ahead for Christmas and Thanksgiving, because those weeks sell out early.
Rowlett Hardware is a family-owned business run by Rodney and Paula Rowlett. It began in August of 2000 with a single store in Rio Vista, opened to give people south of Cleburne a real hardware source instead of a drive to a big box store. The idea was the old general store, where you could get everything you needed from someone who knew what you were doing with it. That has not changed across four stores.
The Cleburne store at 1460 West Henderson Street opened in June of 2008 and is the largest of the four. Along with every hardware department it houses the Kitchen Place gourmet kitchen shop, the Fudge Shoppe, bridal registry, glass cutting, key and transponder key cutting, screen rebuilding, propane cylinder filling and a Stihl certified service and repair center.
The Rio Vista store at 811 North Highway 174 is the original, and still stocks fasteners, tools, electrical, fencing, paint, concrete and precast concrete steps, keys, pocket knives, LiT coolers and propane filling.
The Godley store at 201 South Main Street trades as Rowlett’s Corner Post. Rodney and Paula bought it in September of 2010 and renamed it. It carries a full hardware inventory plus feed and animal products the other stores do not stock, which makes it the one to know if you farm or keep livestock.
The Grandview store at 102 South Louisiana Street is the newest, opened in April of 2016 in a building the Rowletts bought and remodeled. It is a small building with a great deal in it, including hydraulic hoses and fittings made up while you wait.
Between them the four stores carry over 68,000 products. Propane cylinder filling and key cutting are available at every location, and screens can be dropped off for repair at any store. If one store does not have what you need, another usually does, and we will tell you which one rather than send you away empty handed.
Four Hardware Stores. One Family. Since 2000.

Staff is always helpful. As soon as I walk in, someone asks if I need help and usually I say yes, and they immediately show me where the item I'm looking for is, or just grabs it for me. Love that I can just drive down the road and get what I need without having to drive all the way to Cleburne for something small.
Some items might be a little higher than at your big box stores, but it's not a big box store. It's a convenient, friendly, and knowledgeable place to help you get what you need to get the job done. Which I'll pay a little bit more for, and not have to deal with lazy, uneducated staff. Thanks guys! I'll be back to get more firewood, chainsaw chains, 2 cycle mix, screws, bolts, and smiles from the happy staff!
Good service and the price difference between them and the big box stores is really about the same and in some cases even cheaper. Biggest thing is if you ask questions you get answers.
